It really feels like a kosy korner here at Our Korner, especially when you’re going there for a surprise birthday dinner. Take a nice walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT, where it’s quiet and serene, pass by Maxwell Hawker Centre and up the hill to Scarlet Hotel! Feels like you’ve found a gem.
Anyway, I love celebrating birthdays with my friends!!! Especially when they are surprise parties. The best moment is when they walk in. First their jaws drop, then that spreads into a big, wide smile, followed by a slitty eye look given to all the friends who participated in the lying/ scamming. Hahahah all for a good cause though!
Back to the food, this place serves up fusion food – a mix of Singaporean/ Asian with other international cuisines. It’s always interesting to have fusion because you try to figure out the influences on the dish, and the reasons behind the flavours in the dish. Here’s some stuff that was found on the table that night!
Char Siu Salad ($14.90) (photo courtesy to my friend who has a knack for capturing some of the most candid moments). Barbequed chicken, poached egg, orange slices, croutons, lettuce, green apple slices, parmesan. Friend mentioned the char siu was tasty, almost like it was obtained from Maxwell, which is just next door haha.
A few Flaming Pizzas (7 inch at $14, 10 inch at $18) appeared on the table that night and the moment they did, everyone’s attention immediately turned to it! Smoked duck with artichoke, sun-dried tomatoes, capsicum, mozzarella and Bacardi flambe thin crust. I felt like the cheese overwhelmed everything else, and I couldn’t get enough of duck, and definitely not enough of artichokes. The flaming part is lots of fun though! Tiny hints of alcohol when you bite through the crust.
Seafood Spaghetti ($25) – garlic, prawns, squid, clams, mussels in tomato cream sauce. The above 3 photos are taken by the bf with his new DSLR hahaha they are at funny angles and I apologise. Looked like a hearty portion but I didn’t try this!
This was my main! And I recommend it yum. It’s Chili Crab Linguine ($25)!! Filled with chunks of crab meat and tossed in tomato sauce, topped with a poached egg and a tempura style soft shell crab. Mine was plated beautifully, but some of the other portions on our table didn’t have crabs that stood so prim and proper atop the pasta aha.
While the pasta felt a little soggy for my liking, I did like breaking the egg over my pasta and eating it with my soft shell crab as well. The sauce was also very strongly crab flavoured! Very good and special. Try out the chili crab sliders as well! Heard pretty good reviews about it too.
Okay what a wordy post. Here’s to the next one!
