Friends and I were on our food trail that day and we intended to hop down to Jalan Besar for some pies. But we forgot that it was a Monday and most of these places are closed on Mondays! Suggested Antoinette as an alternative. It brings back good memories – bf and I celebrated 6 months together here nearly 2 years ago! 😀 And I like this outlet more than all the ones in town, it’s quieter and it’s the first outlet, and it feels like you’re being transported to somewhere idyllic and you’re allowed to be in your own world while you savour crepes and cakes.
After spending some time at the cake counter, we picked out these two exquisite looking desserts. Antoinette because it’s the tried-and-tested special which I really liked when I first had it 2 years ago, and Tropique because anything with the local touch is always worth trying!! SINGAPORE PRIDE. AND WE MADE RIGHT CHOICES!
Tropique ($9): Coconut mousse, poached pandan pineapple exotique coulis, gula melaka cremeaux, malibu syrup, coconut dacqoise finger sponge, caramelised cashew feuilletine
All that in one cake?! Yes. Look at all those layers! And man it goes soooo well together. You must like coconut though it’s so full of coconut. Although I think I’m blogging about this too late if you wanna try it, but man, thinking about it will bring back good memories!! I really liked how the coconut mousse complemented the gula melaka and cashew… TOO GOOD.
Antoinette ($9): earl grey chocolate mouse, dark chocolate earl grey cremeux, raspberry coulis.
Sorry about the not-so-pleasant cross-section of this dessert. I’m sure you’ve read great things about this already, but if you haven’t, please go try it! It’s their signature dessert and for good reason. The distinctive taste of bergamot comes through with a punch, you don’t have to strain to taste it, and each bite of that smooth goodness leaves you wanting more. Oh wait till you break that sac containing raspberry coulis and watch it flow down. That slight tang complements the chocolate taste, but might mask the tea taste, so remember to try the mousse on its own too!
Another thing – I really like the service here! Staff are super attentive and helpful, and they’re all well equipped to answer any questions that you may have.
