Windowsill in the Woods @ Jalan Besar

It’s no wonder everyone goes about with their handphones nowadays and don’t even bring their cameras out! These handphone cameras are getting so good, and it’s so convenient. Photos from my friend’s iPhone 5, I hope I get one soon too teehee.

ANYWAY! The first time I was here, it was a for a friend’s 21st. This place is so whimsical, and you really do feel like you’re stepping into a picture book of sorts cos it’s different from the rest of the neighbourhood.

Finally back here, after one failed attempt to get into the woods when we dropped by on Monday. TSK totally forgot how most cafes are closed on Mondays!

This place is really super good for chilling. It is so peaceful there! They have lovely magazines like Kinfolk too, so you can take little bites of pie and enjoy life in the air-conditioned forest hahaha.

We had two pies to share.

The one on the left is a special, it’s a Camp Symmetry Pie ($7.50) which was produced in collaboration with the hip music festival that goes by the same moniker. LOVED. IT. Go down to get it while it’s still available but be warned, it probably isn’t for everyone. Base of white chocolate pudding studded with raisins,  a generous layer of white truffle cookie streusel and candied thyme to round it off. We loved how the truffle paired with everything else, faint but distinct with every mouthful of the pie. And candied thyme is something I’ve never tried, but woah. That small twig packs a punch, slightly spicy and clove-like but sweet and crunchy cos it’s candied. CAN SOMEONE SHOUT YUM?

Coconut Lime Vodka Pie ($7.50). The staff happily told us that there’s approximately one shot of vodka in each slice of pie. I’m personally not a huge fan of alcohol but I’m sure some will jump at this fact. It’s very zesty lime curd with vodka jelly embedded strategically, and decorated with coconut cream. Not a huge fan of this, felt like the vodka taste overwhelmed everything else, but I’m sure it has its fans.

It really does feel like a place to hide-out when you want some peace and quiet, and they do quite a few private events also, so drop by when you can!
