Classic Cakes @ Sunset Way

This is from WAY BACK, oops!

Sunset Way isn’t exactly the most convenient of places to stop by for cake, but if you have a car (getting very pampered here I know I know), come here! Popped by with friends after our afternoon lesson for some, aptly put, classic cakes. There are quite a number of newspaper cuttings on their glass door – I stood there and happily read all of them to try to pick the most outstanding cakes. We made pretty good choices!

Perfectly sized !! Generous and very, very decent prices.

On the very left you have the Marble Cheesecake ($4.80). For the price you get a HUGE slice of cheesecake, considering you get portions of half the size for $6 or more at some other cafes, and this isn’t too cloying/ heavy. IT’S VERY GOOD – the digestive biscuit base is missing here, and replaced by chocolate sponge. But rest assured that there is no problem, it works perfectly well. The coverture swirls help alleviate the problem of too much cheese (but I don’t really see how that is a problem), and it just turns out to be so easy to finish. This was my favourite out of the lot. I want to eat it now. And it’s 1am.

Blackforest Cake ($3.80). Needs no introduction, and this one doesn’t stinge on their kirsch, or their cherries, or their cream, for that matter.

Lemon Caramel Cake ($3.80 too I think!). Think this was the most forgettable out of the lot. Light flavours!

Chocolate Chip Mille Crepe ($6.50 if I’m not wrong). This was the most expensive of the lot but still WORTH IT. We had Lady M a couple of weeks later, and the crepes were softer, while this had more bite. I really liked how I could taste each crepe distinctly. Think I’d have enjoyed the normal one/ the durian (!!!) one more, but the chocolate didn’t overpower unnecessarily, which was good. Also, how can anyone resist dessert with a flamed top!?!?

This place is super value for money! Tried the durian mille crepes at a friend’s place and it was AWESOME but I think you might have to pre-order for that. The yam cakes (yes they do savouries too, go check out their menu!) smelt and looked very appetising too. Enjoy!
