Celebrations – hitting numbered milestones. Bf wanted lobster and he chose this place based on his friends’ recommendations, and based on his insatiable craving for lobsters. It was convenient too, being at Raffles Place. It’s quite funny how the streets are so quiet, and then you get to the place and it’s packed.
It’s a simple place, more like a casual dining area than a restaurant. No aircon, but cooling enough. Counters where the chefs are preparing the rolls. Tables near to each other so not a place for lingering.
Photos of lobster rolls from various angles:
The one at the bottom is the Spicy Roasted Garlic Lobster Roll ($19). $3 more and you get truffle chips and salad. It’s good – butter poached lobster meat topped with roasted garlic flakes, mayonnaise, chilli and garlic. I liked how all the chilli didn’t overpower the lobster taste, and provided extra dimension to the roll. The bun is also lightly grilled and charred, soft and fluffy, which is also a plus point. It’s small though!!
I got the original ($19) – lobster tossed in roasted garlic mayonnaise, chives and sea salt. Simple does it for me, and a squeeze of the lemon makes this refreshing, light and tasty all at once. I’ve to say the lobster isn’t the best lobster meat I’ve had, like those at Burger & Lobster, but for the price, it’s not a bad deal at all! Still fresh and flavourful.
This is the Crustacean Bowl ($19) in small size. Japonica rice topped with uni creme, butter poached lobster, honey ponzu, caviar, char-grilled cheddar cheese, sesame and chervil. The rice was a little too mushy, it would have been great if it tasted like sushi rice. But all the toppings came together as a burst of flavours in the mouth, so that was yummy. So small though, a few bites each and ALL GONE!
We had conversations about the future, filled our bellies, wandered around looking for dessert, wandered all the way to HV, decided there was nothing to eat there, and went home. We’re getting old, but old is gold (:
