After a very satisfying brunch at Sunday Market, my brother and I decided to drive over here. The drive was less than 5 minutes! It’s also located right next to Nakhon Thai, so you know where to head for dessert after a good Thai meal.
Playing up on the mad hatter, Alice in Wonderland theme – this is a REALLY fun theme, and I always wish the cafes could do more with it. So much to explore!
We already knew what we wanted to have – the Gula Melaka Waffles with Pandan Ice Cream ($8.90). Every table had waffles!
This was very enjoyable! I was reading the interviews that Yvette (owner and chef) gave in magazines, and she says this waffle is inspired by the crispy egg waffles that she eats along Hong Kong streets. And with those waffles fresh in my memory, I have to say that the inspired version is a great spin on the Hong Kong street favourite. I like how the waffles were more savoury than sweet, such that they don’t get cloying and you can finish a whole portion on your own. I also liked how the waffle was dense and very crispy. It’s a nice change from the chewier ones I tend to have. The pandan ice cream had a sharp pandan flavour, and the sauce was quite unique!
