Concetto is a casual outfit, meant to be affordable like what Saveur was, yet innovative and distinctly them. It’s fun dining here, because the pasta dishes are atypical and more painful to recreate at home. And that makes me happy, because the food feels like it’s worth the money (although portions were a bit small for me hehe).
Got the Crab Risotto ($13.90) and Duck Tortellini ($12.90) to share.
“Arborio rice cooked in shellfish broth & crab meat; served with crab meat tartare, brussel sprouts and crispy rice cracker”
Risotto was well-seasoned, like risotto soaked in a crab bisque, although the addition of the other stuff didn’t really do much for the dish.. in my opinion.
“Ingot-shaped pasta filled with shredded duck confit and ricotta cheese; served with sous vide egg, new potato and parmesan emulsion”
I liked this! The tortellinis were huge and really FILLED with duck confit. Not the most melt-in-your-mouth kind of duck, but it’s good. Even more enjoyable when coupled with the light foam and gooey egg!
I loved the buzz there and how spacious the place felt – lots of grey, wood and glass. I especially loved the aroma of fresh seafood and bisques that permeated the entire place. It was so comforting to smell your food before you got to taste it.
Having dinner here the other day reminded me of what pre-theatre dinners and sets were like in London. Ladies all dressed up to the nines, all magically having transformed their work clothes into fancy dresses, high heels and glitzy clutches. Couples excitedly having a quick but nonetheless appropriate date night 3 course meal before heading off to catch their preferred art form of the night. Such good memories! And I’m so glad I’m getting more privy to the arts scene in Singapore. Starting to appreciate all the good works we have here, thanks to the vast community and foundations that have been carefully laid over the years, as well as the constant pushing of creative boundaries. Homegrown talent is abundant and I’m so proud! Lots of Singapore pride these days.
Long story short, Concetto’s a pretty good option for dinner if you’re heading to SOTA for a play after, or just some walking around this side of town. Make a reservation though, I don’t think it’s worth wasting precious time queueing.
